‘Explosive’ will be difficult to defuse in the Tralee Showpiece
It’s another chaotic weekend for those who watch greyhound races with world-class action on both sides of the Irish Sea.
The Irish continue to hold a big hand in the English derby, which continues tonight at Towcester, while on this side of the water there are two big finals to be decided in the coming hours.
The finals of the Sporting Press Online Edition Irish Oaks will focus on the best female talent in Ireland at Shelbourne Park, while the SIS Race of Champions in Tralee is a thrilling finale.
The decision maker in Oaks is particularly hot because so many participants have outstanding demands. The big two on the market are Billy’s Diva and Front Amani, though Susie Sapphire is the same clock inside. Susie Sapphire is not the strongest runner, however, and much will then depend on which of her rivals comes closest.
Billy’s Diva seems to have the draw in their favor, but the big finishers front Amani and Scooby Princess are seen as great dangers in what promises to be a Vintage Oaks decision maker.
In the meantime, Explosive Boy is nominated for the Race of Champions in Tralee. He broke the course record seven days ago in the semifinals and has the brilliant early pace to do every inch, adding to his recent Produce Stakes triumph.
The exciting and hugely progressive Ballymac Merlin is nominated as the main threat.
