In the meantime, let’s discuss where the money goes for multiple MLB matches on Friday night.
7:05 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Dodgers (50-31) at the Washington Nationals (40-39)
The Dodgers won the series opener 6-2 last night in a rain-shortened 5-inning game and took care of business as -140-Road favorites. Los Angeles has now won six games in a row. In the rematch tonight, the Dodgers pass the ball to young left-handed Julio Urias (9-3, 3.95 ERA) and the Nats start veteran Max Scherzer (7-4, 2.14 ERA). That line opened with Washington as the short 115 home favorite and Los Angeles as the + 105 street dog. The public can’t believe they’re getting jokes for such a low price and pounding the nats. Despite this one-sided support, Washington fell slightly from -115 to -110. In essence, the line turns into a pick’em. This signals a sharp backward movement from the Dodgers (+ 105 to + 100). The Dodgers are +110 in run difference this season. The nats are -2. We could also consider a game with a lower score. The total is 8, with the juice juiced to -120, signaling a possible drop to 7.5. The Nats were one of the best sub-teams this season with 51-26-2.
7:10 p.m. ET: Houston Astros (49-33) at Cleveland Indians (42-36)
The Astros treated the Indians at the start of the series on Thursday with 7-2 and cashed in as -178 street favorites. The win resulted in a four game loss for Houston. It was the third consecutive defeat for the Indians, who are only 5-1 in their last six games. In the rematch tonight, the Astros start with the Righty Lance McCullers (5-1, 2.94 ERA) and the Indians counter with the Lefty Sam Hentges (1-2, 7.31 ERA). That line opened with Houston listed as a hefty -172 road favorite and Cleveland listed as the 156 home dog. Sharps seem to be saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and steaming the Astros from -172 to -183. The street favorites with a win of 5 or more runs this season are 43-26 (62.3%). Houston has beaten left-handers this season and goes 20-15. For the past four seasons, the Astros are 107-59 (64.5%) against left-handers. In this case, Hosuton will rely on his ledge on the plate. The Astros score 0.275 which takes first place in the MLB. The Indians reach .228 which is in 25th place. Wiseguys have also reached doom, bringing the total down to 9 from 9.5. The forecast calls for a low 70’s with winds of 10-15 MPH blowing from straight center.
9:40 p.m. ET: San Francisco Giants (50-30) at the Arizona Diamondbacks (23-60)
The Diamondbacks annoyed the Giants at the start of the series last night with 5-3 and collected as + 135 domestic dogs. San Francisco still has the best record in baseball but has now lost four games in a row. In the rematch tonight, the Giants send the experienced Lefty Alex Wood (6-3, 3.91 ERA) and the DBacks Counter with the young Righty Zac Gallen (1-3, 3.69 ERA). That line started with the Giants listed as the -136 road favorite and the Snakes listed as the +124 home dog. Both the Pros and the Joes expect the Giants to break their losing crown tonight as we’ve seen San Francisco go from -136 to -148. Arizona has fought mightily against left-handers this season, only finishing 4-17 overall. San Francisco is 36-20 against right-handed. The Giants are 30-13 as favorites. Arizona is 16-53 as a dog. Sharps fell below this as well, slashing the total from 9 to 8.5. When the roof of the Chase Stadium is closed, a slight lower edge is created. Historically, unders have worked well in domes or stadiums with closed roofs because the ball doesn’t fly as well indoors.
