Roland Story Softball Team goes 4-2 during the week with three HOIC wins
The Roland Story softball team took a big win against a Collins Maxwell team ranked third in Class 1A, took three wins at the Heart of Iowa Conference, and lost two games at the Ottumwa Invitational last week.
The Norse, who ranks 13th in 3A, suffered a 6-1 loss to Ottumwa in six innings and a 6-2 setback in five innings to a Southeast Polk team that ranked 12th in 5A at Ottumwa Invite Friday was rated. The two defeats brought Roland-Story to 22-8 in the season.
Roland-Story had five hits in the defeat against Ottumwa. Ally Ringsby was 2 for 3 with a double, steal and run apiece, Reagan Faber went 2 for 3 with two steals and Hayden Walters single for the Norse.
Madison Geise took the Bulldogs defeat after giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. Dana Vinson allowed two runs with five hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Geise gave up four runs on seven hits and one way with a strikeout in three innings as a losing pitcher against the Rams. Vinson gave up a deserved run on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.
Macy Friest went 2 for 3, Geise scored once, Faber went and scored, Kamryn Lande stole two bases and Vinson took an RBI against Southeast Polk.
Roland-Story defeated Collins-Maxwell on July 1st at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland with a 6-4 score.
Before the game, Roland-Story honored its national softball champions from 1970, 1971 and 1981 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Roland-Story High School. The event was postponed last summer due to COVID-19.
The Norse took the lead 6-1 after three innings. Collins-Maxwell drew through six innings in two runs and had bases loaded in seventh when Alynn Solberg caught a flyball in left field to seal the win for Roland-Story.
Walters was 2 for 3 with one run and two RBIs, Vinson drove in two runs and scored twice, Faber was 2 for 4 with a double, Solberg drove in one run, Alyssa Jones scored twice and stole a base, and Lande had a steal and run per piece. Friest added a single for the Nordic.
Geise allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in five innings as the winning pitcher. Vinson hit a batter and gave up two hits and a walk in two scoreless innings of relief.
Reagan Franzen gave up two earned runs on five hits, scoring seven strikeouts and five walks in six innings as the losing Spartan pitcher. Franzen also doubled and scored once, Marissa Boege went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Erica Houge finished with two runs 1-for-3 and Alexis Houge finished 1-for-3 with two steals and one run for Collins-Maxwell.
The Northmen beat Prairie City-Monroe by an 11-1 score in five innings on June 30th senior night at Roland. They scored six runs in the first inning, took the lead 7-1 after four and took four more in the fifth inning to end the game early.

Roland Story beat West Marshall with a 12-1 score in five innings on June 29 at Roland. Ringsby had a monster game against the Trojans, going 5 for 5 with a double, two runs and six RBIs.
Friest doubled up twice and drove against the Trojans in two runs. Reagan Schmitz went 1-for-1 with a steal and two runs, Walters 1-for-2 with one run, and Faber 1-for-3 with one run and RBI apiece.
Lydia Oetker added two runs and a steal, land one run and steal apiece, Jones one run and Geise one RBI.
Geise took the win over West Marshall after giving up a run on four hits with a strikeout and walk apiece in 3 1/3 innings. Vinson threw 2 2/3 goalless innings, gave up two hits and hit a batter.
