One person was arrested and six dogs were confiscated in connection with a case of animal abuse, Horry County police said Friday.

Earlier this week, the Horry County Police Department’s environmental unit became aware of a video broadcast on social media that appeared to show abuse of a dog, the department posted on Facebook.

An investigation was initiated based on the social media post and tips from community members.

As a result of the investigation, Marcell Riggins, 49, of Conway was charged and held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

The six dogs seized in the case are currently not available for rescue adoption. The police ask parishioners to keep calls through them to a minimum.
