1:10 p.m. ET: Cincinnati Reds (35-36) against the Minnesota Twins (31-41)
The twins won the interleague series opener on Monday with 7-5, went against a Miguel Sano Homer in the 12th inning and collected as +102 home dogs. It marked the fifth straight win for Minnesota and the fifth straight loss for Cincinnati. In the rematch this afternoon, the Reds sent veteran Lefty Wade Miley (6-4, 2.88 ERA) and the Twins Counter with 6’8 ” Righty Bailey Ober (0-0, 3.71 ERA). That line opened with Cincinnati listed as a Short 110 Road Favorite and Minnesota as an Even Money Home Dog (+100). Well-respected wise men have pounced on the streaking Twins, taking Minnesota from +100 to -120. In essence, the pro money turned the twins from a dog to a favorite. Home teams that get a win of 15 cents or more are 95-51 (65%) this season. Interleague favorites with a line move in their favor are 44-29 (60%). The total opened at 9.5 and the pros immediately hit the hook and drove the line to 9.
9 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Clippers at Phoenix Suns
This is Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The Suns lead the series 1-0 after scoring a 120-114 win at the series opener on Sunday and being covered as 4-point home favorites. In the rematch tonight, the Suns opened as 6-point home favorites. The public is split down the middle and doesn’t know who to support. Recreational bettors like the idea of scoring big points with the Clippers but are also wary of betting against Phoenix, who have now won 8 playoff games in a row. Phoenix is 9-2 ATS in the postseason, including a perfect 6-0 ATS favorite. However, despite these even bets, we’ve seen the line drop slightly from 6 to 5.5. In a vacuum, a line shouldn’t move at all when the tickets are split. So that half a point drop signals that some reputable cash is snapping up the clippers and forcing the odds makers to adjust the line in favor of the street dog. The grand total hasn’t moved from the opening of 224. Game 1 grand total was 219.5 and sailed over and landed at 234. The books have adjusted tonight’s grand by nearly 5 points from the opening game, which could be a sneaky contrarian underhand. If the total is 220 or more, then the shortlist in the Conference Finals for the past decade is 9-2. Both Chris Paul and Kawhi Leonard are expected to miss the game tonight. The Suns lead the series 1-0 and are a -400 favorite for the NBA finals. The Clippers are a +310 dog.
10:10 p.m. ET: Colorado Rockies (30-43) at Seattle Mariners (38-36)
These interleague opponents tend in opposite directions. The Rockies have lost two in a row while the Mariners have just defeated the Rays, lifting Seattle’s record to 7-1 in their last 8 games. In the series opener tonight, the Rockies pass the ball to left Kyle Freeland (0-2, 9.58 ERA) and the Mariners counter with Righty Chris Flexen (6-3, 4.12 ERA). That line opened with Seattle as the -145 home favorite and Colorado as the +135 street dog. Pros don’t outsmart themselves here. They beat the home favorite with a better record and a better pitching advantage, as we’ve seen the Mariners go from -145 to -155. Home interleague teams with a number in their favor are 50-30 (63%) this season. These teams are 52-22 (70%). Seattle is at home 23-15 this season. The Rockies are the worst road team in the MLB and so far go 5-27 as visitors.
