Javier Baez was pulled out of Monday’s game after forgetting how many were out and ran from first to third when a flyball was hit with an out. The bony-headed baserunning gaffe caused Ross to end Baez ‘night.
Baez obviously thought the first baseman had two outs Anthony Rizzo hit a routine flyball on left field in lower quarter so he sprinted around bases only to be doubled at first base by the Cleveland Indians, resulting in an embarrassing inning-ending double play for the Cubs. Between innings, Ross chatted with Baez in the dugout canoe and then replaced him on the line-up, which Baez accepted without argument. While the Cubs were 1-0 behind the Indians at Wrigley Field, Sergio Alcantara took over at the shortstop for Baez.
