AMC Networks is betting on its next big series Dark winds, a western noir thriller from executive producers George RR Martin and Robert Redford, along with other producers Tina Elmo and Vince Gerardis. The detective series follows two Navajo police officers in 1971 in search of the perpetrators of several but seemingly unrelated crimes. The series is created and executive producer by Graham Roland, the creative behind projects like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The returned one, Almost human and fringe. Vince Calandra will act as showrunner and executive producer and Chris Eyre will lead the pilot and also executive producer.

Dark winds is based on the long-term Jump Horn & Chee Book series by Tony Hillermann, and follows two Navajo police officers in the Southwest in the 1970s as they try to find the criminals behind a gruesome double homicide case that forces them to uncover and explore their own trauma and spiritual beliefs. The six-part series will star Kiowa Gordon and Tooth McClarnon, with McClarnon also serving as executive producer. I am thrilled to see McClarnon get a lead role as he is on shows like Western world and Fargo proved that the actor can successfully carry out a large project.

This is a big deal for AMC and also for the future of television production, especially as it is Dan McDermott, President of Original Programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, said the writer’s room is exclusively occupied by Native American writers, who were primarily filmed in and around Native American territories, and the President of the Navajo Nation Nation Jonathan Nez gave the series his full approval.

In an official statement, McClarnon said, “I am honored to be the lead role in this innovative series for AMC. Having the support and being part of a team led by two iconic visionaries like George RR Martin and Robert Redford is something I have always strived for. I believe that as indigenous people we are in a new era of advancement in television and film representation. ”

With an already very productive career, McClarnon has some other interesting projects in the works, including a regular series in Marvels Hawk Eye New series. He was also featured in a new FX comedy by Taika Waititi called Reservation dogs, which is about four Native American teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma. But if you need McClarnon sooner than these series can provide, he was last featured in a surprisingly underrated National Geographic series called. seen Bark skinsthat is based on Annie Proulx‘s epic novel.

Dark winds will premiere on AMC + and AMC in 2022.
